Kenyan chapati recipe!
It’s the weekend and if you have 11/2 hours to spare, try this recipe out!
3 cups of flour
1.5 tsp of salt
1tsp of sugar
3tbsp of plant based butter
1.25 cups of water
▫️Mix the flour and butter together until smooth.
▫️add the salt and sugar
▫️then slowly add the water as you mix
▫️knead until smooth ( you want the dough to be a little sticky)
▫️cover and let it chill for 15 minutes
▫️divide the dough into 10 pieces
▫️stretch one piece into a circular form using a roller then smear 1tsp of oil before rolling it like you would a mat.
▫️once rolled, create a coil making sure to tuck the end in the middle. Do this for the remaining pieces.
▫️heat the pan under medium heat. Once again, using a roller, stretch a piece into circular with medium thickness, then place on pan.
▫️You know when to flip when bubbles of air develop on the top side. Once flipped, brush oil then flip to let it cook as you oil the other side.
▫️By this time, your chapati should have golden brown ‘patch- like forms’
▫️serve when hot.
▫️wait until they cool before refrigerating or freezing them. Use ziplock bag for this.
