I just love how simple yet tasty this dish is and it’s one of my favourite ways to enjoy silken tofu. My mum used to make this for us as kids, and I have always enjoyed it since!
Silken tofu with caramelised shallots (Serves 4 as a side)
1 silken tofu
2 shallots, thinly sliced
1 tsp caster sugar
1 tbsp dark caramel (substitute for kecap manis)
1 tbsp soy sauce
Spring onion, thinly sliced
Fried ginger floss
Place the tofu on a plate into a steamer basket over a large wok filled with enough water to fill and place over high heat. Steam for 10 mins.
In the meantime, make the caramelised shallots. Place 2 tbsp of oil into a small pan, saute the shallots for 5-7 mins. Add in the dark caramel and soy sauce.
Once the tofu is ready, remove from heat and spoon over the caramelised shallots over the tofu. Garnish with some salt spring onions and ginger floss.
